Turmadèn is an Arab word in which Tur- means “hill” and Al-madin stands for “the mine”, which together means The Mine Hill, in reference to an old abandoned mine, possibly from Roman times. Towards the beginning of the 14th century, information related to a hamlet or farm called Turmadèn appeared.
Since 2003, the traditional farming activity has been retaken on a surface of approximately 75ha (over 185 acres) of woodland, fields and growing areas, where ecological agriculture and cattle raising, as well as beekeeping, are performed again. In 2012, an effort to implement agro-tourism activities was made and, in 2016, important reforms were undergone to rehabilitate and enlarge the premises, using traditional Menorcan elements like sandstone and lime, which resulted in a very characteristic place.
In our agro-tourist house we keep 5 double bedrooms and a magnificent Suite, all bearing scientific names of plants. All rooms have been minutely designed and decorated by us, in order to maintain traditional architecture and the country style that appertains to the rural houses of the isle.
Turmadèn des Capità is located in the centre of the isle, between the villages of Alaior and Es Mercadal, and is definitely a perfect shelter for Nature lovers, where comfort, style and character merge with passion and commitment for the environment.
